The incidence of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) increases globally. Considering serious consequences of GDM for both mother and fetus, screening for this disorder is an obligatory element of managing pregnant woman. The pathogenesis of GDM is not yet thoroughly explained. However, it is insulin resistance and chronic subclinical inflammatory process which are considered to be major factors responsible for the development of GDM. There are no guarantee when it comes to preventing gestational diabetes- but the more healthy habits one can adopt before pregnancy, the better. • Eat healthy foods. • Keep active. • Start pregnancy at a healthy weight. • Don't gain more weight than recommend.
